An afternoon of history, art and local folklore at the “Tesori Aperti Summer Edition 2026 – San Rocco”, an event dedicated to exploring the Oratory dedicated to the saint, as part of the traditional San Rocco Fair.
Guided tour of the Church of San Rocco
The Church of San Rocco, owned by the Giovannini and Conti families, is a small oratory near which, from the late 1500s until 1764, a gallows stood for executions ordered by the Criminal Court of Terra del Sole.
The façade is simple, but the decorative terracotta elements are of great value.
On the altar stands a 17th-century painting depicting St Rocco, whilst another canvas portrays Our Lady of Loreto.
A trapdoor inside the church leads down to an underground crypt where the tombs of Aristide Conti, who, in 1869, purchased the thermal springs of Castrocaro, giving new impetus to the fledgling spa industry, and other members of the landowning families.
