For about a millennium the great manor, erected on the rocky spur that has made it a fascinating and original panoramic subject, has watched over the village below.
A unique combination in which fortified architecture has become inseparably linked to its surroundings.
Unique in its type and extent, the Castrocaro Fortress is composed of three distinct architectural and defensive works: the Girone, the Rocca and the Medicean Arsenals.
Inside the museum complex it is possible to visit the Fortress and the Medici Arsenals, the Palace of the Castellan, the Courtyard of Arms, the Court, the Church of Santa Barbara, the Prison Tower, the Troglodytic Caves and the so-called "Balcony of Acquacheta," from which a breathtaking panorama can be admired that sweeps as far as Mount Falterona. The rooms of the Palazzo del Castellano house the Historical-Archaeological Museum entitled "L'AQUILA, LE CHIAVI, IL GIGLIO," where weapons, majolica, paintings, furniture and antique furnishings are on display.
