The itinerary “The Masters of the Renaissance in Romagna: the Artistic Schools of Marco Palmezzano and Luca Longhi” explores the Renaissance art of Romagna through the works of two emblematic figures who have profoundly marked the artistic history of the region.
In the sixteenth century, the Renaissance in Romagna produced some of the greatest Italian masters, including Marco Palmezzano and Luca Longhi, central protagonists of the local artistic movement. Starting from Ravenna and Cotignola, home of the painter Luca Longhi, the itinerary guides you to discover Mannerism, characterised by elegant shapes and bright colours, still present today in many churches in Ravenna. Longhi, together with his children Francesco and Barbara, developed a style that spans the forms of the Renaissance to reach a more eclectic and refined art, representing a point of reference for the art of the time.
The itinerary extends to several locations in Romagna, including the art museums of Faenza and Cesena, as well as churches located in Forlimpopoli and Santarcangelo di Romagna.
At the same time, the works of Marco Palmezzano, a master from Forlì and disciple of Melozzo, enrich the artistic heritage of Romagna. Famous for his perspective skills and for the evocative landscapes that characterise his paintings, Palmezzano is represented by works such as the altarpiece of the Annunciation, kept in the San Domenico Museum Complex in Forlì. The itinerary also includes a visit to significant places that host other works of his, from the churches of Forlì and Forlimpopoli to the Art Museum of Faenza, up to the villages of Castrocaro Terme, Brisighella and Dozza.
A not-to-be-missed journey into the heart of the Romagna Renaissance, to discover the masterpieces of two masters who were able to transform their land into a crossroads of art and culture.
