The Alta Via, or Ridgeway of the Apennine parks is the longest trekking route in the Emilia-Romagna Apennines. From Berceto in the Parma area, it runs all the way to the hermitage on Monte Carpegna, in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, in 27 sections that include three regions: Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Marche.
For each section of the route, there are places where you can pitch your tent and camp for the night. Below is a list of the points on the ridgeway where you are permitted to camp for the night in the section of the route under Emilia-Romagna’s jurisdiction.
The Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park: sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

Camping outside the designated campsite areas and the officially authorised farm and/or agritourism establishments is forbidden. It is also possible to camp in the areas outside the mountain shelters, bivouacs and other facilities for hikers, but only when these facilities are open and only if there is no accommodation available within the facilities themselves. In this case, an overnight stay in your tent is permitted for one night, from one hour after sunset to dawn, and for no more than two tents at the same time.
For camping outside the territory of the park, you need to contact the individual facilities directly.
