Our Flags

For years, many beaches along the Riviera have been awarded prestigious recognitions such as the ’Blue Flag’, a symbol of excellence and quality, and the ’Green Flag’ for beaches that are particularly child-friendly.

THE BLUE FLAGS: What are they? The Romagna coastline proudly continues to dispaly its ‘blue flags’: an award presented by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) to the most deserving seaside resorts. The certification system, which focuses on sustainable tourism, is recognised worldwide and acknowledges the Romagna region for the purity of its waters, its respect for the environment and its commitment to sustainability.

Along the Adriatic coast, you’ll find a wide variety of beaches: from wild, unspoilt stretches with sandy dunes and lush pine forests to fully equipped beach resorts offering every conceivable comfort. The variety and number of entertainment options are significant: beach and water sports, organised entertainment events, dance evenings, events at dawn or sunset… you’ll be spoilt for choice!

GREEN FLAG: Child-friendly beaches! Families with young children receive special attention. The Green Flag, awarded by a team of Italian paediatricians, recognises the safest and most suitable beaches for children.  Besides assessing the environment and the quality of the water, the following factors are evaluated: the presence of fine sand, space between sunbeds for children to play, the presence of shallow water, the presence of lifeguards, facilities created especially for children, and entertainment options for parents.

Features that must be present: “Clear, shallow water near the shore, sand for building sandcastles, lifeguards and lifeboats, play areas, facilities for nappy-changing or breastfeeding, and – with older children in mind – parks, ice-cream parlours, sports facilities, as well as bars for an aperitif and restaurants for adults nearby.”
