There is no ‘best’ time of year to explore the art and culture of Emilia Romagna—it’s always the right time. Looking back on the Renaissance years, we see this region with fresh eyes and from new perspectives, by getting to know the places and people who lived between the 15th and 16th centuries.
The term Renaissance brings to mind the city of Florence, but the movement also extended to Romagna, through the close bond with the great House of Este which although later than the Tuscan city, brought a new wave of innovation and important works to Ferrara, also influencing the seignories of the region.
Six themed experiences covering the provinces which were most closely involved in the Renaissance in Emilia-Romagna: Ferrara, Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini.
By retracing the history of these ninety municipalities we will revive the lives and works of the leading seignories of the Renaissance, including the Este and the Malatesta dynasties and the artists and architects of the period, including Leon Battista Alberti and Piero Della Francesca. We will also explore the glorious monuments typical of the 15th century.
