Savio Valley

The descent of the Savio river from the source to the sea is a journey for all the senses, among authentic flavours, sanctuaries and sacred paths, artistic beauties, silent forests and places of well-being. Without forgetting the taste for gastronomy and high-quality products that have always characterised this area. In Verghereto, on the border between Romagna and Tuscany, two rivers originate: the Savio, which descends towards the Adriatic, and the Tiber, which reaches Rome.

Walking in the woods to discover their hidden springs is a unique experience, almost a pilgrimage, which in every season is painted in vivid and evocative colours. Descending you will find Bagno di Romagna, an ideal destination for those who want to enjoy hours of absolute relaxation in the green of nature and in the warm waters of the renowned spas, which date back to Roman times.

In the background, the National Park of the Casentinesi Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna, enriches the valley with activities for all ages, such as the excursion to the Sasso Fratino Integral Reserve, the first established in Italy, which with its ancient beech forests has become part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Descending towards the valley is Sarsina, the starting point for the Cammino di San Vicinio route and the birthplace of the great Latin playwright Titus Maccius Plautus, celebrated every summer with the popular Plautus Festival.

Not far away, the charming village of Mercato Saraceno is the ideal stop to visit one of the many wineries in the area, take a walk through the vineyards and taste the excellence of the area. Further down the valley is Montiano, the balcony overlooking the sea that dominates the rolling hills of Cesena, disputed over the centuries by the families of the Kingdom of Italy thanks to its strategic position and exceptional panoramic beauty.
